Rider Briefing

This event is designed to be a fun experience.  It is sure to be challenging to each of you in different ways.  For some of you it will be just getting around the track, others it might be to see how many laps you can get done in 3hrs and others will be racing for the podium. With that in mind we are all going to need to be aware of each other out on the track and recognise different levels of skill and fitness.

The track will be just over 6 kms long with approx 110m of climbing per lap. It is an exciting and fun mix of flowing single track and wide fire roads with plenty of places for over taking.  There are some technical elements to this track and if you are not comfortable riding it is perfectly ok to walk.  Please be aware that riders will be coming along the track so you will need to keep to one side to allow the riders to pass.

If you encounter a slower rider, shout 'Track Left' or 'Track Right' to indicate the side you wish to pass, and wait for them to give way.  You must wait for them to acknowledge you and to either move over or say which side you can overtake on. Most inexperienced riders will instinctively move to the left. Note that you need only give way when you feel it is safe to do so. If stopping, call 'Stopping'.

The track is marked with bunting and arrows to signify the direction to be ridden. Down arrows signify a decent and the more arrows the steeper the decent. On one of the descents there is a signed Dismount Zone. You may stop here and dismount safely and move to the walking path to the right hand side of the track.  If you are going to walk this section please stay to the right on the walking path so that those riding can do so safely. If you choose to walk any other section please stay to the side there also.

If you feel that you need to stop for a rest, grab a drink or have a bite to eat you can do that anywhere around the course.  The only proviso is that you pull off to the side of the track and don’t block anyone from riding through.

There will be marshals stationed throughout the course all equipped with 2 way radios. If you are the first to encounter an injured rider, you are required to stop and render assistance and send the next rider onwards to advise the marshal. Riders providing assistance can have their times adjusted so that they are not disadvantaged.

The marshals are there for your safety and you are required to follow their instructions, particularly in the case of an emergency.

Outside Mechanical assistance is allowed but you must re-enter the track from the same spot you leave it. There will be a roving Marshall or two on the track able to provide assistance where required. Please don’t feel compelled to use them they are only there if you need them. If you come across a rider that requires mechanical assistance please advise the next Marshall you come across so that the roving mechanic can be called for. Please make sure you are carrying a tube suitable for your bike.

Please advise timing staff if you have withdrawn from the race.

Double Yokers Team members are to touch (High 5) to signify the change over. (Only one of you will be on the track at a time)

Team members are to transition in the transition area which is located after the timing mat.

Should a team member be unable to complete their lap they may have a track marshall radio race base to advise their team mate to start their lap. Timing must be advised and the part lap will not be counted in the overall lap count.

This is a 3hr event with no new laps to be commenced after the race clock has counted down to zero.

Junior Double Yokers no new laps will be permitted after 2hours.

The winners are decided by the most number of laps completed in the fastest time over 3hrs.

Presentations will be at 1pm.  Please stay around for these if you can. This will be for random prizes as well as podium presentations. For random prize draws you must be in attendance to win the prize if your number is called.

Toilets are available near race base, and around the course at Robs Kitchen and Bimbimbi campsite.

Free tap Water is available at the venue. Food and Drink will be on sale from the Rats Cycling Club BBQ and Jungle Bean Coffee Van, these vendors will be accepting cash only.

Some of our wonderful sponsors will be having stalls on the day so bring some cash as you may like to purchase from them.

When you arrive at Karingal Scout Camp you will see signs directing you to our event base.  There will also be Car Parking Marshalls.  Please follow their instructions.  Some car parking will be inside our race course so if you need to leave early please advise the Marshalls so that you are directed to an appropriate spot.  With the huge number of people we are expecting you may wish to consider carpooling.

Course Markings

The course will be marked using standard signs as appropriate.
